Sustainable Work
We all need to take responsibility for sustainable development, in every way we can. When looking at Nordicbo's value chain, it becomes clear that we can both reduce our negative impact and contribute positively in all three aspects of sustainability: social, environmental, and economic.
Social Sustainability
Nordicbo is a well-known brand in the region thanks to our collaboration with local partners and suppliers, we sponsor local sports and engage in issues that are important to us. Often, these issues are about social sustainability.
Health and Well-being
Our guests often work many hours of the day when they stay with us - they are away from home and focus on their jobs. Therefore, it must be easy to achieve recovery and exercise. It is important for us that our guests feel good, and we do our utmost to provide them with the conditions to take care of themselves. Many of our apartments are located near green areas, and in all our apartments, there is a training mat and a simple training program. Our facility on Hamngatan in Sandviken is just a few hundred meters from Storsjön, and here we also plan to build an outdoor gym.
Equality
We are convinced that the world becomes a better place when men and women are valued equally. To achieve this, everyone must contribute in as many ways and at as many levels as possible. Since 2017, we have been working purposefully to promote Swedish women's team sports by sponsoring the local football team, Sandviken IF, as well as the local bandy team, providing accommodation for their players. Sandviken is known for bandy. Feel free to attend a match; our facility on Hamngatan is right next to the home team's arena, Göransson.
Local job opportunities
It may be cheaper to shop at large shopping centers or online, but we are keen to support our local businesses to maintain job opportunities in the area. Therefore, you will find furniture from the local furniture store and textiles, electronics, and household appliances from shops in the area. We know that they maintain high quality in their products and that they are always just a phone call away if something goes wrong.
Safety
It may seem obvious, but we put a lot of care into creating safe, comfortable corporate accommodations in Sandviken and Gävle. We ensure that the area around our accommodations has good lighting for increased safety when darkness falls and offer parking adjacent to our accommodations.
Environmental Sustainability
Both people and companies consume the earth's resources every day. Our effort to reduce our negative impact can be found in everything from small changes in how we run our own operations to the conditions we provide our guests to act sustainably.
Transporter
Our operations naturally include a lot of transport. We are in constant motion to clean, furnish our apartments, and take care of our guests. In 2021, we switched all our transports to fossil-free alternatives. You will meet us on bicycles or on foot when possible, otherwise in our Volkswagen Crafter (electric vehicle) which has room for everything. It is a fantastic workhorse in our efforts to ensure that you and your company can stay as well and comfortably as possible. Our accommodation on Hamngatan will also have electric car chargers.
Circularity
We care that every apartment feels fresh, which means that we only buy high-quality furniture that lasts long and becomes more beautiful with the years. Reuse reduces climate impact and we reuse furniture and equipment as long as it is possible.
Waste and Packaging
It should be easy to do the right thing, and of course there are recycling bins in every kitchen as well as source sorting at our newest facility on Hamngatan. Ideally, we would of course like to avoid packaging materials altogether, but we try to contribute by refilling our soaps and dishwashing liquids from larger containers.
Economic Sustainability
For many, economic sustainability is synonymous with growth. Not for us.At Nordicbo, economic sustainability must never come at the expense of social or environmental sustainability. That’s why we chose in 2022 to sell off a large and profitable part of the business to fully invest in another segment of apartments that aligns with our vision – to create an oasis for people who work remotely.
Of course, we need to make money to develop the business and pay salaries, but in a sustainable way, both for ourselves, for the community we live in, and for the environment.
